For {years | so long} now I have been trying to get a waist. I am 54 years old and have been {exercising | fit} all my life, and I mean all my life. As a teenager I did jazz ballet 3 times a week, plus from the age of 18 I also {ran | ran alot}. I then not only exercised but I danced as well, every style you can think of and {loved | really enjoyed} it. This was {good of course | awesome for me} and I have never really had any weight {problems | issues}. However I did of course put on weight when I had my two {children | kids}, but it wasn’t long before my body did go back to {normal | its original size}.
A few {statistics | measurements}:- Height is 5ft2inches. The weight I feel most comfortable with is 55 to 57kgs. I’m a little under that at {the moment | present}. I say weight I feel most comfortable with because I believe that that is what you should be aiming for, not what the {text books | books} say - you have to be happy with your weight. I have good legs and a strong back, but my problem was always that I did not have a waist.Being short there was no room between my ribs and hips or not much anyway, so it looked like I was just straight down. I would do sit ups and crunches {by the dozens | all the time}. I would do all the waist exercises I could, but nothing worked.
I had given up until on a road trip with my husband across the Gulf Country from Darwin to Brisbane we pulled up at the Leichhardt River to camp for the night and while out on a {walk | stroll} (I continue to exercise even when I’m away) we met a {young couple | couple} travelling in a very big motor home. They invited us to have a look at the {vehicle | motorhome} as you do when travelling and I noticed she had {exercise | fitness} equipment and asked about it. She was an instructor and she too did not stop her {exercise | fitness routine} when {away | traveling}. We got to talking about one thing and another and I saw a hula hoop hanging up in her {equipment | fitness} room. She told me then and there to cut back on the sit ups and crunches and give {hula hooping | hooping} a {go | try}. It will improve your core strength and define your waist she said and by looking at her, I {had to believe it | believed it}.
I took the details on where to buy {one | a hoop} which was over the internet from USA. It isn’t the hula hoop the kids use, it is weighted and has small massage balls attached to the inner side rim of the hoop. When I arrived home I {researched | searched} the {internet | web} and found what I was looking for and {bought one | ordered one}. It cost me around $80 AUD and 3 weeks wait. The hoop comes apart so you can take it {whenever you go away | where ever you go} and I do take it with me {most of the time | on most of my holidays}. I started using it for {about | just} 10 minutes as it had been years since I had used one and then I read that you should be using it in both directions, clockwise and anti clockwise. So away I went with that being a little sore at first and I think slightly bruised, although I couldn’t see any bruising, {I certainly felt it | it felt tender like ti was bruised}. I now work up to 15 minutes in each direction. So 30 minutes a day usually after I return from an hour’s walk and while cooling down with the morning show on, I stand there and hula hoop. No stopping, {only to change direction | just to change direction}.
The results are that I have reduced my waist measurement by 2 inches and it has given me {a definite shape | a shapely body}. I have told many people about the {hula hoop | hoop}. Some have started using one themselves and are having {success | great success}, but you must use it for {it to work | you to reap the benefits}. I have also done some more research on the {hoop | hula hoop} and found out that it has other benefits. The massaging balls on the inside of the hoop do just that and massage around your middle and that stimulates both your kidneys and bowel to function better. I know myself that the bowel is certainly getting a bit of a workout and I have never really had issues in that department, however the hoop does stimulate the bowel. Now that may be useful for those of you who do have a problem.
One lady I introduced to the {hoop | hula hoop} also has the same with her kidneys. She has been having problems for years, and now her kidneys are functioning perfectly. I’m not saying it will work for {everyone | everyboday} this way but it is working for {some | a majority} of us. I have been using the {hula hoop | hoop} for about 18months and I will never {stop | stop using it}. I think the 30 minutes daily is about all you need to do and I do that 6 times a week. The important thing to remember is that you should set a time to do your exercise but be flexible if something comes up. If you can’t do it, don’t say I won’t do any today, just do it at a different time. Most of us watch some TV so whenever you do, stand up and use those hips and work that waist.
Just Google "exercise hula hoops" to get started. Good Luck!
