Are you overweight?Need to lighten up a little bit, quite literally? Are you struggling with finding the right inspiration to get yourself off the couch and into the gym?
What's the main motivating force that will drive you to ultimately change your old counterproductive habits and get you moving in a healthier direction?
What type of P90X resutls are you hoping to achieve? Are your looks more important to you than your health? For many in today's society, looks are elevated to the pinnacle of achievement.I admit that it's certainly nice to look good and know it.
The problem is for people that are prone to believe that just looking good will change their life for the better or somehow make it more meaningful. Maybe a better body is ok as a short term motivator, but it's just not enough to sustain the drive you will need to get back into shape.
If all you can think about it how you look to others, then other people's opinions are overly important to you.Quite often this results in extremely poor health choices... fad diets, diet pills, starvation diets to lose weight quick for a wedding or a family reunion.
When we choose to live or die by the numbers we see on the scale we are also choosing to live in a vicious cycle of yo-yoing up and down to fit into the "look at me world."
What if our over-riding desire was just to be better? I know that if I ride my bike today for 1/2 hour and lift weights doing a p90x workout for 45 minutes that my body and my mind benefit immediately from that, even though my appearance hasn't changed.
If I choose today to eat healthy, whole foods, my health improves today. By combining the two, consistent exercise and whole foods I know that the area inside my temporal lobe releases chemicals into my system that make me feel happy and confident.
I also know that in the long run, a healthy diet and regular exercise aid my body's natural ability to fight disease and injuries.
I know what I'm fighting for. I have a beautiful wife and 5 amazing kids. I want to be around for a long time to enjoy our relationships and provide for everyone to the best of my abilities.
I want to live a healthier, wiser, happier life. I want to be fit. I want to feel comfortable in my skin. I do want to fit in my clothes better and look better as well, but that's more of a side benefit as opposed to my main focus.
If you constantly just focus on looking good you will only be disappointed. The simple fight and desire to improve for it's own sake will bring you plenty of returns on your fitness journey.
